Chapter 1
My name is Natalie Jenson. I start high school tomorrow at Southbridge High. Everyone there I won't know, except for Alyssa Kaymore. Alyssa is my best friend, she lives right across the street from my house. We have been best friends all our life! We are practically inseparable! But this summer when we were both supposed to go to an archery and swimming camp, Alyssa went to a different camp. I didn't see her for the whole summer! And, we haven't talked since she got home from camp, three weeks ago.
"Natalie!!! Natalie Anna, you wake up right now! It's your first day of high school and your going to be late!" I opened my eyes, it was my mother.I hate it when she wakes me up! I sat up and said, "Mom!!! I have an alarm clock, you know!" She looked at me with her "mother look" on and said,"Natalie,do not talk to me with that tone." I said sorry and she left for work. I got up, took a shower, and then ate cereal. I said to myself, "At least Alyssa will be there to hang out with me today." When I was done with breakfast, I rode my bike to school.
When I walked through the doors of Southbridge High, I was amazed! It was huge! There were hundreds of kids talking, running, opening lockers, and doing other "high school" things. I checked the note that my mom had given me from the principle and looked for where it said my locker was. I finally found it and it said that my locker was on the first floor. It said that if i go straight, the 20th locker would be mine. I went down the hall and counted 20 lockers, I found my locker and looked for my combination on the paper. I opened my locker and put my things in. When I was walking down the hallways looking for Alyssa, everyone seemed to be laughing at me! I didn't know why. Then a group of sophomores yelled out to me,"Nice outfit loser!!!!" Then I knew why everyone was laughing at me, my outfit probably looked totally lame! I was wearing a purple t-shirt that said,'I'm The BIG BAD WOLF!' This morning when I put it on I thought people would laugh with me not at me about the shirt. For pants I was wearing jeans with butterflies on them, I had thought that they were pretty and that other girls would envy me, not laugh at me! I felt like a total loser! But that all went away when I saw Alyssa's face!
Chapter 2
I ran towards Alyssa, but then stopped when I saw what she was wearing. She had on a t-shirt that ended right above her bellybutton, the shirt said,"Back off, I'm way to hot for you." She was wearing a skirt that was 4 inches away from the top of her knee, she looked so cool compared to me. She was talking with a girl I didn't know and they were laughing and hanging out like they'd known each other their whole life. I walked up to them and they stopped talking. I smiled and said,"Hey Lyss!" She said,"Oh, hi." The other girl said,"I'll see you later Lyss!" and then walked away. I looked at Alyssa and saw her staring at her shoes. I asked her,"Who was that?" She said,"Rebecca, my friend from camp." still looking at her shoes. A boy walked up to her and said,"Hey Alyssa." She looked at him and smiled,"Hi Tom. I really missed you." Then she hugged him, it seemed to me that she had forgotten I was even there. He smiled and said,"Wanna go out on Saturday?" Alyssa smiled and said,"Sure!" He smiled at her and walked away. I asked her,"Another friend from camp?" She said,"Yeah, look I should really go, bye!" Then she just ran off. I sighed and looked at the paper to see which class I should go to. My first class was English. I went back to my locker and got out my English book. It took me a while to figure out which book was for English because the books didn't say the class it was for. When I finally got the right book, everyone was in their classes, I was the only one in the hallway. I still didn't know how to get to English, I said to myself,"Man! This is the worst first day ever!"
I walked down the hall, looking for a room that had the word ENGLISH on the door. No such luck, all the rooms had only numbers on them. After looking through all the rooms on the first floor, I began to look for someone to ask where the English class was. I finally found, a group of Juniors just talking in the hallways. I didn't know why they were on the first floor, they were supposed to be on the third floor because they were Juniors, but I decided to ask them where the English room was. I walked up to them and asked,"Um, hi, I'm Natalie and I was wondering if you could show me where the English room is?" The 3 girls smiled and the 2 boys laughed. The tallest girl put her hand out and shook mine,"Hi! I'm Lauren, she's Jackie, she's Tina and those two dorks of boys are Eric and John. Of course we'll show you where English is." Lauren smiled again and everyone else laughed. "OK just follow me. You guys stay behind her, she's way too cool to be in back!" Lauren said with a smile. "Really? You think that I'm cool?" I asked in amazement. Lauren smiled and said,"Of course!!! You're WAY cooler than those dorks!" They were walking down the hall when they went outside. I asked,"The English room is outside?" Lauren laughed and said,"Of course it is silly!" I laughed quietly and said to myself,"Of course it's outside! These Juniors have been here for 3 years! They should know!" Lauren said,"Oh my goodness! I totally forgot! You're a freshman! I forgot our present that we give freshman's every year! Remember guys?" They all looked puzzled. "Remember? That SPECIAL present? That big blue one," Lauren said through her teeth. The others nodded and started giggling. Lauren said,"Just close your eyes and walk 10 more steps! Then you'll find your gift that we give to freshman's every year! Ready? Go!" I smiled and closed my eyes, I counted how many step I was taking. I heard them laugh on my 9th step, I didn't know why. Then on my last step, I fell.
Chapter 3
I opened my eyes and realized that I had fallen into the pool. I screamed and saw the Juniors laughing and running away. I had just figured out why they were laughing and being so nice to me. I swam to the little steps and got out of the pool. I looked at myself, I was soaked! I really needed to find a bathroom, and fast! First I went to my locker and got out my jacket, I put it on, even though it was about a million degrees indoors and out. I found a bathroom and ran into it. Good thing there were towels in there! I dried myself off, well, as best as I could anyway. I heard the bell ring and my heart fell. I had just missed my first class! "Oh man! This totally stinks!" I said out loud.
I saw the door open, but when I saw who was coming in I screamed! Three boys were coming into the Girls Locker Room! They yelled and one asked,"WHAT are you doing in the Guys Locker Room?" I felt dizzy,"I....uhh...umm...I'm really sorry! I came in here without thinking....I thought this was the Girls Locker Room and..." The boy who had asked the question started laughing and the two other boys started too also. I felt my cheeks turning red. The boy who had asked the question said,"Whatever, could you get out, because we kinda have to change, unless you wanna see us change or something?" I said quickly,"Oh,no thanks!You know I should get going! Umm...see ya....I guess?" Then I quickly ran out of the bathroom and ran to my locker.
I looked at the paper that had my classes on it and saw that I had Geometry next. I was about to ask someone in the halls where the Geometry room was when I heard from the intercom,"Natalie Jenson, please report to the principle's office. Natalie Jenson." I sighed and started walking to the principle's office. I knew where that was because before school started I had a meeting with the principle. When I got there I walked into the office and saw the principle, Mr.Tanner, sitting at his desk reading papers. I smiled and said,"Hi Mr. Tanner, umm, you, uh, wanted to see me?" He looked up,"Natalie?" I nodded. He smiled and said,"Take a seat." He pointed to the chair that was in front of his desk. I smiled and walked over to the chair and sat down. When I looked at him, he had a stern look on his face. He said,"Now, Natalie, I got a call from your English teacher, Mrs. Jalimo. She told me that you didn't show up for her class this morning. She had seen you walking in the hall this morning, so she knew you were here. Why weren't you in her classroom when you were supposed to be?" I looked at him and said,"Um..." I thought about telling him that some Juniors tricked me into falling in the pool, but if I told him he would get the Juniors in trouble. If he got them in trouble, I would be in trouble with them! "I...I just couldn't find the right room. Could I get a map of the school please?" He looked at me for a second,"Okay." He handed me a new map. I looked at it and said,"Thanks." Then I started to walk out the door. "And Natalie?" I turned around. "Don't let it happen again." I smiled,"I won't." When I opened the door again he said,"Natalie?" I rolled my eyes and thought,'What does he want now?' Once again, I turned around,"Yes?" I said yes kind of in an irritated voice. When I looked at Mr.Tanner, it looked like he hadn't noticed my change in tone. He smiled and said,"Welcome to Southbridge High!" I smiled and walked out the door. "Finally!" I said aloud. I heard the Warning bell, that meant the next class started in 5 minutes.
I started to run to my locker, I had to push through kids going to classes, and kids going to lunch. Finally I got to my locker, got out my Geometry book, and looked at the map. It said Geometry was in Room 431. I walked and looked for Room 431 and finally found it. I pushed the door open and saw kids reading, studying, texting, talking, and just sitting. I looked for an empty seat. I found one in the third row. I sat down and put my books on the desk. I looked around for something to do. 'Guess I should try to make a conversation with someone,' I thought. I turned to my left and saw someone talking with someone else. I turned to my right and saw a boy just sitting. When I tapped his shoulder,he turned to look at me. He was the boy from the bathroom! I said,"Hi."
He looked at me like he was trying to remember something. Then he smiled,"Hey! You're the girl that was in the Boys Locker Room!" I sighed,"Yeah,I am." He laughed, I started to blush, but then he said,"Sorry I laughed at you. It was just funny!" I looked at the front of the class,"Yeah...funny." He touched my hand,"No, I'm really sorry, seriously! By the way, my name is Jack..." He was interrupted by the teacher who said,"Good morning class! I am Miss Camille!" I looked at Jack and whispered,"I'm Natalie."He smiled. For the rest of class Miss Camille just told us the rules of her classroom:No talking,no passing notes,no using cell phones,no using ipods,blah blah blah.
That's not the end of chapter three but it's not done yet.

Ever read the book, "How I Survived Middle School: Can you get an F in Lunch?" Because this is almost the same as it... just it's at a middle school, the prank the 8th graders pulled on the main character lead her to the janitor's closet, she didn't walk in the boy's locker room, and the main character's shirt didn't say "I'm the BIG BAD WOLF", it had a lizard on it from the camp she went to.

When the bell rang,I rushed out of class. When I got out of my class,I called Alyssa on my cell phone. She picked up,"Hello?" I smiled,relieved that she had actually answered,"Hey Lyss! It's Nat!" I thought I heard her sigh before she said,"Oh,hi."I frowned,she didn't sound too excited to hear from me. I asked her,"So what's your next class?" She said,"Oh it's..umm...it's Chemistry." I smiled,"I have Chemistry too!I guess I'll see you in class then!" I started to walk towards my locker. Alyssa said,"Yeah,look, I gotta get off...bye!"Then she hung up before I could even say Goodbye.
When I got to my locker I got out my Chemistry book and looked at the school map. It said Chemistry was in Room 621. I looked around for Room 621 and found it just when the Warning Bell rang. I walked in the classroom and took a seat in the front row. I sat and waited for Alyssa to come into the classroom. When she did,she was with three other girls. I smiled and waved at her. She looked at me,sighed,then walked right pass me. I frowned.The two other girls walked by,when the third one did,she looked at me,laughed,then followed Lyss. I frowned,I was really confused. In Middle School,Lyss would have sat next to me right away! If someone was already next to me she would give them $20 to move!Here's the full description of Alyssa:She is a gorgeous brunette with blue eyes. She has a perfect figure,not too skinny,not too chubby,just right. She has a beautiful,natural,tan from being at the beach so much. She wears THE most gorgeous clothes I have ever seen on a 14 year-old.Oh,she is also filthy rich! Now me?Well...I'm...here's my full description:I'm a brunette,with brown eyes.I don't wear that pretty clothes. And I'm not the wealthiest person in the world.

I looked back to see where Alyssa was sitting. She was in the back row with the three other girls. I put my bag on my seat and walked over to her. "Hey Lyss!" I said, smiling. She looked up. I saw her roll her eyes,then the three other girls did too. "Oh hi," she said,then she started another conversation with the other girls. I smiled,waved,then walked slowly back to my seat. I thought,'Hey! What if I go back there and sit with them?Then I could join their convo and maybe Lyss would start talking to me again!'I still didn't know why Lyss was acting this way,but I decided to go and sit with them anyway. I picked up my bag and walked to the empty desk next to a girl that was sitting next to Lyss. I sat down and smiled at the girl next to me. She looked at me,then rolled her eyes and went back to the convo she was having with Alyssa. I looked at Lyss and asked,"What are you guys talking about?" The girl next to me whispered to Alyssa in a loud whisper,"Why does she keep trying to talk to us?" I smiled at Lyss. She whispered back,"Umm....I don't know,I've never seen her in my life!" I frowned,'What was she talking about?I was her best friend!' I looked puzzled. I asked Alyssa,"What are you talking about Lyss?We're best friends!" She paused for a moment,kind of looking like she didn't know what to do,then said,"Oh yeah!Guys this is.....umm..my....uhh.....friend,Natalie.We went to the same Middle School.Uhh...Nat....this is Laura...."she pointed to the brunette on her right,"Kaitlyn....."she pointed to the blonde next to Laura,"and...Whitney."she pointed to the blonde I was next to.I smiled,Laura,Kaitlyn,and Whitney all rolled their eyes. When I looked at Lyss,she was looking down. During the rest of the class,while I was trying to study,I heard them whispering and giggling the whole time. I tried to ignore them but they were whispering way too loud!
Chapter 4
I was so glad when I heard the bell because I had to go to the bathroom really bad. I ran out of class and used the map to find the bathroom because I didn't want to be in the Boys Locker Room again. While I was walking towards the bathroom,I ran into Kyle.I mean literally,ran into him.I had to go so bad I was running while I was looking at the map when I bumped into him. When I looked up,he was smiling. He said,"Hey Natalie!" I smiled,"Hi." He asked,"Why is your foot tapping?" I looked down at my foot,it was tapping! I said,"I...uh....because..."I didn't want to tell him,'Because I have to go to the bathroom.' So I just said,"Bye!" Then ran towards the bathroom. I heard he yell,"Natalie,WAIT!" but I just kept on running.
After I got out of the bathroom I went to go look for Kyle. I found him by my locker,waiting. I took a deep breath,then walked over to him. He was leaning casually on the lockers. When I got to him,he smiled at me. "Where'd you run off to,hmm?" I looked at my shoes,"I...umm.....I went to the bathroom," I said,still looking at my shoes. HE laughed,then I looked up and asked him,"Hey!How'd you know this was MY locker?" He laughed,"Lucky guess?" I raised an eyebrow,"Seriously!" He smiled,"I asked the principle!" I smiled. "What class do you have next?" He looked at his schedule,"Uhh...I have Gym,what do you have?" I asked him,pointing to my locker,"Can you move first,cuz,your kinda blocking my locker?" He looked behind him,"Oh yeah,sure!" Then he moved out of the way. I smiled at him and opened my locker. I got out my schedule and saw that I had Gym also! I looked at him,he was looking at the people in the halls walk bye. I tapped his shoulder and he turned to me. I smiled a big smile,"Guess what?" He raised an eyebrow,"What?" I smiled some more,then said,"I have Gym too!" He smiled,"I guess I'll walk you to class,then." I got out my Gym clothes and started walking with him. I asked him,"Don't you have to get your clothes?" He pointed at me,"Right!" WE walked to his locker,after he got out his clothes,we started walking to Gym again.
When we got there,we split up to go change. I walked into the Girls Locker Room. When I pushed the door open,I walked into an empty stall. While I was changing,I heard girls coming in,laughing. I recognized one of the laughs,it was Alyssa. I listened to them talking. One of the girls,I think it was Kaitlyn,said,"So Aly,how do you know Natalie?"she said 'Natalie' in a kind of annoyed tone. Lyss said,"Um...I met her when I was like 3,and we became best friends." I think Whitney said,"Oh." Alyssa asked in her confused voice,"But,Whit.....it's not like.....uhh.....I'm not friends with her anymore! Yeah....she just wants to be cool and hang out with me now! Yeah,that's it!" I felt tears in my eyes. I couldn't believe that my so-called "BFF" was saying that! I sat down on the little bench in the stall and wiped my eyes,I felt my tears going away,but then I heard Kaitlyn say,"No offense Aly,but Natalie is SUCH a geek! I mean......just look at her!" Then they all started laughing,even Alyssa. I felt tears coming up again. When I heard them walk out, I came out of the stall and looked at myself in the mirror. My nose and cheeks were red. I put water on my face and walked out of the Locker Room. I went to go find Kyle. I didn't find him anywhere so I guessed he was still changing.
I walked to the Boys Locker Room and waited by the door. A couple guys came out and started looking at me,I get that a lot from guys because I have a really nice body. But I'm shy around boys,so I don't really talk to them too much. I smiled at them. Then Kyle came out,he was wearing red sweatpants and a white t-shirt. When he came out he looked at me and said,"Wow!Nice outfit Natalie!" I smiled,I was wearing a red tank top and white shorts,"Thanks,you don't look too bad yourself!" Actually,he looked really good! He had a great tan on his arms,he was really tall,and he was buff. Plus,he had a great smile! He grabbed my hand and pulled me to the running track,we started running next to each other. He asked me,"Do you like high school so far?" I smiled,"You?" I asked him. He looked ahead of him,"Yeah,I guess.I'm trying out for the basketball team this year because in 8th grade last year,I was the best b-ball player in my league!" I giggled. He looked over at me and smiled.
When we finished running I looked at him and asked,"So have you made any other friends besides me?" He looked up,"Well,you know those two guys I was with in the bathroom when I met you?They're my friends from Junior High,and I'm also friends with...." I interrupted him,"What are their names?" He looked at me,"One's name is Chris and one's name is Daniel. And I'm also friends with these three girls,Mikena,Alexis,and Miranda." I smiled,"At lunch can you introduce me?" He smiled,"Sure." He pointed to the soccer field where everyone was standing,"Let's go!" We ran toward the field. The teacher said,"Hello class!My name is Mr.Kennedy!From now on,you will know me as your gym teacher! Now,everyone,we are going to start off with soccer,we will play soccer until September,is that clear?" Everyone said,"Yes." He said,"I will break you up into two teams,Team 1 and Team 2! I will point at you and say either one or two,then you will go to your team!Team 1,go to that side of the field,Team 2,the other side! Got it?" Everyone nodded. He said,"Good!" Then he started to pick people by calling one or two. He pointed at me and said two,I ran to the other people who had gotten two. When I looked over at Kyle, he put up one finger and shrugged. My face fell. I was hoping that we'd be on the same team! Oh well,at least I was great at soccer!
Chapter 5
I went into a huddle with my team,they were talking about who would be goalie,center,forward,blah! I asked,"Can I be forward please?" They looked at me and nodded. I smiled,this was awesome! I was totally good at being forward! I got out of the huddle and started jogging in place,the adrenalin was rushing through me! I looked over at the other team and saw Alyssa, Kaitlyn,and Whitney laughing and staring at boys,my heart ached,I wished that I could be over there with Alyssa. Today, I would just pretend like Alyssa and her new friends had never said those mean things about me. I smiled weakly.
Mr. Kennedy blew his whistle and everyone got ready,then he yelled,"When I blow my whistle,you must start! Then when the game is over,I will blow my whistle again,then you must stop playing immediately! Clear?" Everyone yelled,"YEAH!" When he blew his whistle, we started,I got the ball and started to dribble to the other team's goal,when I saw Kyle,I accidentally passed him the ball. He laughed,and I heard my team groaning,but why? Then I saw him running to my team's goal,I gasped! I started to run,"Why...why,why,why??"I said to myself. Then I saw Kyle make the goal and I frowned. He came up to me and said,"Thanks!" I rolled my eyes. T he captain of my team called a Time-Out and we got into a huddle. The captain's name was Michelle Lackey, I learned that when I saw one girl go up to her and say,"Hey Michelle!"
When I got into the huddle,everyone looked at me. I bit my lower lip. Michelle raised an eyebrow at me and asked,"What's your name?" I smiled,"Natalie." She smiled,"Mine's Michelle." I smiled. Michelle rolled her eyes and said,"You're going to be goalie!" My mouth dropped open,"WHAT?" She smiled,"Yeah,after you made that pass,I decided to make you goalie! We're already down by 1,and we can't afford to lose on the first game! We only have..."She looked at her watch,"...20 more minutes,and I don't lose! In middle school,I won EVERY soccer game,so I WON'T lose!" She smiled. I said,"But....I...I don't wanna be goalie..." She said,"NO!You are going to be goalie! Ok?Alright!" Then the whistle blew and I slowly walked to the Goalie Box. I stood there,crossed my arms,and rolled my eyes. Being goalie was so boring! You just stood there and caught the ball, how boring was that?
