Lily, you broke up the words. You did not search for the term. If I decided to look up United States in the dictionary, but instead do it for the word, here's what would come up:
United: 1. made into or caused to act as a single entity: a united front.
2. formed or produced by the uniting of things or persons: a united effort.
3. agreed; in harmony.
States: A condition or mode of being, as with regard to circumstances: a state of confusion.
Notice it doesn't say anything about a country! Please refer to post #10, where my dad defines it. He has a college degree in philosophy.
Philosophy is: 1. the rational investigation of the truths and principles of being, knowledge, or conduct.
2. any of the three branches, namely natural philosophy, moral philosophy, and metaphysical philosophy, that are accepted as composing this study
