How would you exactly define a nerd? Because I was called a nerd, and I looked it up to see I did not match it at all. It said, "Someone who prefers intellectual activities rather than social activities." And I enjoy hanging out with friends, playing sports, have many friends, but I am the smart one out of my friends and that's probably why I was called a nerd. Some other people I'm guessing have been called nerds without actually being one too. So I am wondering, how would you guys define nerds?
Sorry if this is a bad topic or offensive but I was just wondering. :-/

Well us nerds before the term intelectual human beings. Just kidding! Well I'm smart but I have friends (who are geeks. Big diffrence) To understand what a nerd is you have to understand what a geek is. A geek can act nerdy but they are usually play video games or never go to partys. Nerds prefer books over partys or other social gatherings. Oh and for the record at my school some of the smartest kids are the popular ones so no one is ever called a nerd at my school since smart people are more popular

Dork: Dork is a term used to describe someone who has unusual interests and is, at times, silly (Haha, sounds like me! ). A dork also usually has the same bookish intelligence that is sometimes considered annoying by peers. Similar to the terms "nerd" and "geek".
Nerd:A Nerd is usually a term to describe a stereotypical bookish intelligent person. They prefer schoolwork and pursue knowledge in school rather than outside knowledge such as outdoor activities and school sports. Because of their lack of social experiences, nerds are often considered "loners".
Geek: The word geek is a slang term, noting individuals as "a peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to be overly intellectual".
Lol I love web search.
But if I had to define them from just being smart I would say that they are often times silly, but serious in school situations most of the time and in classrooms. I probably fall into the "dork" category because at home and online I can often be very silly, but at school I am very serious and quiet (I know, GASP!), except when I'm around friends.

I'm a complete dork around my friends. Believe me I am my friends didn't even believe that I get straight A's until I showed them my report card but when I'm in the classroom or at home I fall in the category Geek/ Nerd. Haha I guess I'm a complete social outcast lol.

if thats the absolute true definition of dork... then i have to say im a little bit of one but come on? who isn't?!?!?! LOL lyke, one time i was getting out of my friends hot tub and they warned me that the stairs to get out if the hot tub were icy. i just kinda laughed and didn't care. when i was stepping down, i completely slipped and fell on my leg and got a huge bruise! thank goodness it was during the winter time and i could cover my leg with jeans!! so i am a COMPLETE dork at sometimes. im not like a bookworm or anything, and i know im definatly not perfer knowlege over friends..... thats just ..... odd

GEEK SQUAD FIXED MY FRIENDS MOM'S COMPUTER THO!!
I beg to differ on that since that may be your opinion but they are reasons why someone would do that like for example me
I would prefer knowledge over friends because people in my grade made a decision when I was real young that I am a total dweeb. Why would they do a thing like that? Because I was the only one brave enough to stand up for a mentally disabled girl in my class. Right then and there I decided that I didn't want to look pretty anymore since that would only give in to peoples image. I made friends most of them moved away but the ones that are still with me today aren't that close because I never know if they will decieve me or not. So as long as I have one or two best friends and a bunch of friends who aren't that close I feel great and I make more but I know that most of them wouldn't be my friends if I was more quiet, less smart, less athletic and thats why I choose to suceed through knowledge then through social because why should I choose a mentally ill girl crying over being smart and being remebered in history?
Lol its kinds my life story but well I was bored -.- and I like to get my point across.

Well, I guess I am sort of in between. I know my responsibilties in school, but I like hanging out with friends too. I don't prefer one over the other though, because there are reasons to prefer both. I am though, a little silly with friends, but they have to be REALLY close to me. Like lillytheyellowlover said, who isn't, there your friends! Yeah and at my school the smart people at school have many friends, I do, but the ones who called me nerd was not from my school...

Thats excactly like me.Crazy around buds and quiet around teachers.I think its just I hate when adults yell at me but I dont care what my buds think.
Once my friend told a teacher what we did this weekend (forgot what we did) and the teacher was so surprised at what we did.It was actually pretty funny
