Help Us Give Money to Charity! BTT's Holiday Charity Poll!
Thank you to all who participated in this great event!
Holly's favorite charity, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will receive a $100 donation on behalf of BTT this week!
This year, instead of getting a present from me for the holidays, your INCREDIBLE moderator team decided to donate their gifts to charity! But they need your help! Each of our admins and mods have chosen a charity that is close to their own hearts. The total of the presents that I would have given them is $100. So, we are opening a poll and letting you decide which charity the money should go. Each of the mods has written a little something about their charity. Please vote on which of the causes should receive their present. This poll will be open from now until 01-06-2008 at 8pm PST. The charity with the most votes will get a $100 donation from the site on January 8th. The poll is open to anyone to vote once so if one of the mod's choices is also your favorite, help them out in their campaign and have all your friends vote. If this poll gets a total of more than 1000 votes, then Be Tween Talk will double the donation!
I personally think that our mods (which are all kids) have made an incredibly mature and generous decision and they deserve a lot of credit. It shows what great kids they are and what the spirit of this site is all about!
Here are your choices listed in alphabetical order of user name to be fair!
Cjlhoops and Knuckles choice is American Red Cross

Preparing Communities for an Emergency and Keeping People Safe - Preparedness. That basically explains it all. This organization helps many people during disasters when they need help with basic needs. They were instrumental in helping people this year during the California Wildfires and their work with hurricane victims and other natural disasters deserves our support.

Holly's choice is The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
3 of my very small cousins have CF. They are all under tha age of 8. Most people with this do not live past the age of 35 on average. What is CF? Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening disease that causes mucus to build up and clog some of the organs in the body, particularly in the lungs and pancreas. When mucus clogs the lungs, it can make breathing very difficult. The thick mucus also causes bacteria (or germs) to get stuck in the airways, which causes inflammation (or swelling) and infections that leads to lung damage. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is the primary sponsor of critical research that is making tremendous advances toward a cure and control of cystic fibrosis (CF). They have been recognized as being one of the most efficient organizations of our kind. Nearly 90 cents of every dollar of revenue they raise is available for investment in vital CF programs to support research, care and education. Thanks for considering my Charity.

KrazyTeen's Charity Choice is: Make-A-Wish Foundation
Why?: I do not have such a personal experience in which this affected me or somebody else close to me, but it stuck out. Looking on the web recently and checking out the various charities there are out there today just amazed me. It was difficult to just choose one, but I did. Make-A-Wish Foundation really stuck to me when reading about it. Here is a little background information: Make-A-Wish Foundation® has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. The Foundation's mission reflects the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish® experience has on children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors and entire communities.
For some of these children their wish is the last thing they have the opportunity ever to do again, and the Wishes granted are things they probably would never think about being possible for them to experience.

LoonyLoveGood13's choice is Locks of Love!
|
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. I have donated my hair twice already, and I plan to do so again.

PowerGirls Choice is Africare
Why?: For 35 years, Africare has been helping Africans improve their quality of life, their personal well-being, and their world. The NGO employs staff largely indigenous to the countries and to the areas where it works. Africare creates an environment where children are educated and nurtured, families have adequate food, shelter, clothing, and health care, natural resources are protected, women are empowered, people are healthy, and communities live peaceably. Yet none of these objectives can be realized without working toward them at all. Recognizing this connectedness, and integrating its development programs accordingly, is Africare's strength.
Africare's programs address needs in the principal areas of food security and agriculture as well as health and HIV/AIDS. Africare also supports water resource development, environmental management, basic education, microenterprise development, governance initiatives and emergency humanitarian aid.

Tinkerbell's choice is Children's Miracle Network
|
My youngest son was born with the birth defect, spina bifida. He is only 9 and had more than 18 surgeries and spends a lot of time in hospitals. Children's Miracle Network has made it possible for him to enjoy the time he spends there as much as possible. This year he had two separate times when he had to lie flat on his back in the hospital for three days each without moving. CMN provided him with a TV on a robotic arm that floated above his head. Without that, I think he would have gone crazy! They send puppies, games, clowns, and all sorts of fun stuff to distract sick kids during their stays in the hospital and I think they are GREAT!

Unfortunately, SmartCutie was away while we made these choices but she will lend her support to one of the above choices when she gets back.
