Chapter 1
Bored

We drove up the drive way and down our road. We live in Utah, so it was a long drive there.
I stared out the window looking at the country landscape. I fell asleep slowly as my dad drove to our destination.


~ Several Hours Later ~


“Rocky… Rocky,” My dad said softly. “Huh… we are here,” I said half asleep. I slowly got out of the car. I grabbed a plastic bag with little strength. We walked in the deserted looking hotel. I thought tons of cars would be in the parking lot, but only a few were there. I and my dad walked in the hotel. I sat down as my dad went up to the check in counter. A lady was sitting at the counter chewing gum and righting something down on a sticky note. Her name tag said Hotel Keeper: Jenn. He got the room key from her and then we went to the room. My dad opened the door. Our room had a tall ceiling, its own living room, and a king sized bed! I dropped my bag, ran and jumped on the bed. I laid down and stared at the window searching for what this summer would hold for me. “I’m going to get some ice for the frig,” my dad said.
I went to the living room in front of the plasma TV. I tried to turn it on, but it acted like it was broken.
“Now what am I suppose to do now!” I wined. I searched through the dressers for one of those hotel note pads, but all of the drawers were empty. We had not un packed stuff, but I was to lazy to do dad a favor. I looked around the room for a stool so I could look on top of the shelves. I went into the bathroom. Right next to the sink was what I was looking for. I gently placed the stepping stool next to the shelves. Unfortunately, nothing was there. After I put the stool back into the bathroom, I desperately got on my knees and looked under the bed. There was a book lying under the bed. I reached for the book and pulled it out. I wiped off the dust and read the title.
