The SAFE way to get to Soldier's Rest is:

Click "World Map"
Click "Ardent Stone" (North side of the island)

As far as I know, using the World Map bypasses any encounters along the way. It's the best method for recovering your health!

Also, if you have no items, go to Armorer Albo. He will provide you with gear and enough money to rest. Rest once you have put on the gear.
