XBOX Kinect-THE Christmas Gift of 2010

OK, parkinect photo from amazonents, listen up. Every year a toy comes along that gets so much hype, the kids start begging for it, prices soar on eBay and no store has it in stock. A few years ago it was the wii, but we have seen it from Cabbage Patch Kids to Tickle Me Elmo. Well, this year, consider yourself duly warned….the XBOX Kinect is going to be IT this year.

So, what is it? It is an extension to the XBOX somewhat similar to the wii fit but I hesitate to say that because it blows the wii fit out of the water. It has no controllers. The player is the controller. I don’t really understand all the technology behind it but it basically measures 1,000’s of points of movement of the player and makes them the controller. It was like watching a sci-fi come true as the player is placed in the game including voice control. Instead of kids using buttons to play games where they train pets, they actually make the realistic movements for their pet to mimic. The possibilities here for gaming seem endless. Not to mention the ability for us lazy parents who use the XBOX for Netflix to ditch all the remotes now (not that I would know….)

I got the chance to go play with this thing a few weeks and here is my friend in the Kinect Joy Ride game. Of course we are old so we don’t ‘get it’ the way the kids do but you will get the point here.

Of the games that were available at the preview I was most impressed with were Dance Central
and Kinectimals I liked the Yoga in the fitness game but was disappointed that the fitness requires another add on.

I have included my Amazon links above but you can get all the information about Kinect on the xbox site. Just remember that this is not a stand alone unit. Your kiddo’s have to have an Xbox 360 to run this. :)

You’re welcome for the heads up! If you think you are going to want this under your tree you had better get it pre-ordered. They ship out around Nov. 4th and I really think it is going to be one of those things that you just can’t get your hands on after.

Disclosure: I was compensated to the attend the xbox event but writing about it was completely my choice. I am really impressed with it.
