I remember some other dumb criminal stories from Readers Digest, but I don't remember them with much detail. A friend told me this one though (actually, my English class was talking about people getting sued for dumb reasons):

A man broke into a garage belonging to a family that had just gone on vacation. However, once in, he found that he could not get out. Stuck in the garage, he was forced to survive by eating dog food for 2 weeks. The family returned home to find the man in the garage, and dialed 911. Notwithstanding the charges, the robber sued the family for not keeping human food in the garage.
